Study for Curriculum Revision of the College of Nursing, Seoul National University







Abstract
The purpose of the study was to evaluate and revise the curriculum for the baccalaureate nursing program at the College of Nursing, Seoul National University. It was to meet the needs for changing health care in Korea. The importance of health promotion and prevention has been emphasized by the Korean government and society because of increasing chronic illness.
Delphi method was used for the study. The results of the the study identified the six aims of the education for the college of nursing: 1) professional role development, 2) theoretical knowledge development, 3) clinical competency, 4) accountability as a health care professional, 5) scientific/scholarly inquiry, and 6) establishment of nursing philosophy. The conceptual framework that reflects these educational aims was developed. It consists of ten categories and each category contains curriculum courses and their credit hours. The curriculum is designed as a four year (140credits) program: two years of prerequisite course work in general studies prior to two years of professional course within the nursing major. Among 140 credits, the requisites are 130 and the electives are 10.
